Interfaith Conversation

Interfaith Conversation

Over two Sunday afternoon sessions, Rabbi Daniel Greyber from Temple Beth El and FPC’s Jerry Postema will discuss the sacrifice of Isaac.  This difficult text, found in Genesis 22:1-18, has a complicated and rich history in both Jewish and Christian traditions.  This interfaith conversation will consider that history and what challenging parts of our sacred scripture have to show us in modern times.  FPC’s Margaret Keller will moderate, and Sharon Hirsch will host.  There are two sessions, Sundays, January 24 & 31, 4:00-5:15 pm.  Join us via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87187441461.  Friends are welcome.

Christmas Eve will be different in 2020!

Christmas Eve will be different in 2020!

FIRST, any time TODAY, you are invited to WATCH a pre-recorded video Congregational Christmas pageant featuring members of the congregation, their children, and their pets, depicting the Christmas story. This event replaces the traditional children’s pageant of prior years and promises to lift your spirits!

SECOND, at 5:00 p.m. TODAY, you are invited to JOIN US for a live-streamed worship service that will include communion and the lighting of candles. This traditional service (broadcast live) will include music of the season, scripture reading, and meditation by Mindy Douglas. Click here to view the worship guide.

This year’s Christmas Eve Offering will support Welcome Baby, the Iglesia Emanuel food ministry, and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC. You may mail your gift to FPC or give it online (click here). You can also donate via text message by texting XMASEVE to 917-373-3254.

Please
plan now to spend some time this Christmas Eve reflecting on the miracle of
Christ’s birth and feel free to share with friends and family the two links to
these events.

Wishing you all a safe and very merry Christmas and a blessed new year!

“Christ the King” Sunday

Join us on Sunday, November 25 for worship at 11:00 a.m. as we celebrate “Christ the King” Sunday. Christ has dominion over all creatures, a dominion not seized by violence or usurped, but by his essence and by nature. (from Cyril of Alexandria)   Pope Pius XI instituted the Feast of Christ the King in 1925, following World War I, to remind believers that our primary allegiance is to a heavenly ruler and not to earthly powers.
