9:45 a.m.—Sunday School Kick Off in Watts-Hill Hall

THEME: Winds of  Change (Acts 2:2a)

Children, youth, and parents are invited to enjoy food, fellowship, a photo booth, and activities leading towards a new Church School year.   We will introduce our class offerings for the fall.  Come and meet your new teachers and classmates!

Ben Maxwell Cello Recital

Sunday, August 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the FPC sanctuary –

Ben Maxwell, son of Jody and Julie Maxwell, will play a cello recital in the sanctuary with pianist Deborah Hollis featuring cello sonatas by Debussy and Prokofiev as well as the Unaccompanied Bach Cello Suite No. 3. The performance is free and open to everyone.

North Carolina Baroque Orchestra presents concert at FPC
Saturday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary –
Tickets/Suggested Donation: $15 General/$10 Students; Seniors/Kids FREE – 
North Carolina Baroque Orchestra (Frances Blaker, Conductor) will be presenting a program called “Fiori del barocco: Flowers of the Baroque” as a finale to the ensemble’s second annual orchestral retreat. Composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Evaristo Felice Dall’Abaco, Antonio Vivaldi, and more will be featured in a concert of gorgeous baroque gems, played on period instruments.-
Members of the orchestra will also join us Sunday morning and provide music during worship.

On July 24, 2018, the Session received and approved a report from the Youth Pastor Search Committee recommending Rev. John Weicher as our Temporary Associate Pastor for Youth and Their Families in a one-year renewable contract.

FPC Durham is searching for a Director/Minister for Youth and their Families:

The Director/Minister for Youth and their families will lead a comprehensive program of spiritual formation for youth in 6th through 12th grades and their families, with inclusive community building and outreach, Bible Study and Christian formation, missions and service opportunities, recreation and trips. Additional responsibilities include social media postings for the congregation. Important skills include: listening, communicating, building bridges of friendship, and organizational skills. Join us on Sunday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. for worship as the congregation engages in an old-fashioned hymn sing. Music will be provided by a bluegrass duo. Following worship, we will picnic outside under the crepe myrtles and enjoy more bluegrass music.  All are welcome to bring side dishes and a blanket or lawn chairs!

An exclusive event showcasing thrilling organ music and architecture of three Durham churches of historical significance, paired with three courses of fine food and drinks.  A short stroll from church to church, a golf cart shuttle will be provided for those with limited mobility.
STOP 1: Trinity United Methodist Church, 215 N. Church Street in downtown Durham – Enjoy hors d’oeuvres then a private performance by organist Tom Bloom.
STOP 2: St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 403 E. Main Street in downtown Durham – Enjoy dinner at the Gothic Revival St. Philip’s Episcopal Church along with a performance by organist Paula Harrell.
STOP 3: First Presbyterian Church, 305 E. Main Street in downtown Durham – Enjoy dessert, coffee and a performance by organist Kathy Cain Parkins.
Tickets: $60 include
  • Delicious three course meal with wine
  • Private organ performances and architectural highlights of three Downtown Durham churches
  • Architecture expert and church renovator Terry Byrd Eason will share insight on each church

The Church Office will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.  Administrative staff will be available at the church on Tuesday, May 26 beginning at 9:00 a.m. for those needing assistance at the church.  Have a safe holiday!
