Brian K. Blount is the president and professor of New Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond, VA, and Charlotte, NC. An M.Div. graduate of Princeton Seminary in 1981, he obtained his B.A. from the College of William and Mary in 1978. He received his Ph.D. in New Testament Studies from Emory University in 1992 and returned to teach at Princeton Seminary the same year. His primary work has been in the Gospel of Mark, the Book of Revelation and in the area of cultural studies and hermeneutics.

Vox Virorum presents its first joint concert with the UNC Men’s Glee Club and the NCSU Singing Statesmen Men’s Choir. The three groups will join together on stage (FPC sanctuary) for some truly stunning choral singing, including Franz Biebl’s ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘Swing Down, Chariot.’ Open to the public! Free admission, $10 suggested donation. FPC members who participate with Vox are Brent Curtis, Parker Klinck, and Sam Henry.

EL FUEGO Early Music Ensemble in Concert


Friday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. in FPC’s sanctuary; Admission required.
The concert will feature a selection of medieval chants from the Huelgas Codex (ca. 1300) and songs from “Cantigas de Santa Maria” (devotional songs to the Virgin Mary). Travel to Northern Spain through music and beautiful poetry in Galician-Portuguese to get an insight of the minds of praying souls of the 13th – 14th centuries. El Fuego Early Music Ensemble: Malina Rauschenfels, voice and vielle; Laura Grimaldi, percussion; Jennifer Streeter, recorder; and Salomé Sandoval, voice, lute, and artistic direction. Sunday School Intergenerational Event – Sunday, January 29


Fifth Sunday Intergenerational Sunday School
This 5th Sunday, January 29, our theme will be Epiphany Light. Stations will be set up in Watts-Hill Hall where children, youth, and adults can gather around tables to make Epiphany and Valentine cards for our house-bound friends, make origami stars, follow a star through a black light maze, and make Chinese lanterns to celebrate the new year of the rooster. This is a great chance to get to know the whole people of God that constitutes the body of Christ at FPC. Activities begin in Watts-Hill Hall at 9:45 sharp. All Sunday School classes are invited to participate.

Join us this Sunday as we remember the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the story of Emmett Till. North Carolina native Dr. Timothy B. Tyson, who has joint appointments at Duke University and the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), will preach at the 11:00 am worship service this Sunday, January 15. Tyson will also lead a discussion at 9:45 a.m. in Watts-Hill Hall entitled:”Why Emmett Till’s Black Still Matters.” All are welcome.
